The Story Behind Royal Oak’s Hip, Local, and Connected Hotel

Back in the 1950s, the Jones Royal Motor Inn began welcoming travelers to Royal Oak with mid-century charm and roadside convenience. Built in stages around a single family home, the motel was a go-to spot for visitors through the ’80s—comfortably close to downtown and full of character.

By the early 2000s, time had taken its toll. But instead of fading away, the property found new life. A group of local entrepreneurs saw its potential, stepped in, and brought it back—boldly and beautifully.

Today, Hotel Royal Oak blends vintage vibes with boutique style. We’ve kept the soul, added some color, and created a space that’s unmistakably local, incredibly inviting, and ready for whatever brings you to town.

Hotel Royal Oak has been in local hands since 2014—run by community members who care deeply about the city’s spirit and the property’s legacy. In 2023, longtime Royal Oak business owner and former city board member Jim Rasor took the reins, bringing fresh energy and a deep passion for preserving what makes this place so special.

Jim’s mission? To keep the hotel’s one-of-a-kind charm alive and well, while continuing to deliver the kind of warm, local hospitality you won’t find anywhere else.
